Salutations, friends. (I've decided to mix up my greetings. I think it's more fun that way.) Today I wanted to compare my cursive and hand lettering fonts.
However, before I do, I think it's important that I define all the terms I use in this blog. Even though the terms seem identical, each word differs slightly from the other. To people that aren't familiar with the differences, it should hopefully help clear up some things.
- Calligraphy - writing that requires a pen with a nib and ink
- Hand Lettering - similar to calligraphy, but a marker, brush pen, or gel pen is used instead (also called faux calligraphy)
- Cursive - a type of writing where the letters are joined together
For hand lettering, I use only the most refined and high-quality writing utensils: Crayola Supertips. For cursive, I simply use a mechanical pencil. I'm hoping to find some good brush pens to review in the future, but for now I'm sticking with markers.

There are obvious differences between the two, such as that my cursive is smaller and more refined than my hand lettering. The marker tip I use for hand lettering is more broad, and I don't have as much control as I do when I use my mechanical pencil. However, with the marker I can make broader downstrokes.

Since the marker has a bigger tip to write with, the downstrokes are bolder than with the pencil. |
I'll try to post more about hand lettering in the future.
Thanks for reading!
Wow, your handwriting is really nice!
